The Politics of Health

There has been so much talk about the health care reform that one would think any reasonable person would have made a reasonable decision about it. And reasonable decisions should be easily shared by reasonable people. Yet, there is no acceptable reason that I can think of to let millions of children without preventive medical care in a rich nation like ours (the USA). People opposing public health care talk about cost and about turning this nation into a communist country. These conservatives love to scare people with idiotic ideas, such as communism. But the only reason to reject medicine for all is their fear of ABORTION. Coming from an ultra conservative family and social group, I have heard it all. Abortion is murder, if you are OK murdering children, then go ahead and vote for them Democrats and their issues.

Well, abortion would be murder if a fetus was a person. But a fetus is not more than an organized group of cells that will become a person when it gets a brain. Before 6 months of gestation, the fetus has no brain. It produces autonomous functions and survives as an appendix to the mother. After the beginning of the sixth month, the fetus starts developing a brain, hence, becoming a human. Therefore, from a biological perspective, abortion is not murder, period.

What I think about the soul, the beginning of life, or the other mysteries of the universe is just as valid as what any other person thinks in such regards. The validity of our opinions is extremely important when we make decisions about our life and about our dear ones, not about neighbors that we don't even know. Thus, no law should impose on "all" the rules that satisfy the morality of a few. It is really for this reason that abortion is legal.

Furthermore, yes! The government should finance abortions when individual women can not. After all, do we really give single mothers enough support to require women to become single mothers? Do abandoned children get adopted into nice abortion opposing families that are willing to take responsibility for them?

NO! We leave single mothers mostly to their own devices. Even section 8 has become very difficult to obtain. By the way, if you don't know what section 8 or wic are, you should not even bother going to the polls.

 Yes, after listenning to every argument given against the health care bill, I have come to the conclusion that right wing conservatives oppose health for all in order to prevent abortion.

They claim that they don't want the government to use their tax $$$$ to kill. But they are always the first ones to support war, invasions, military torture, and the death penalty. Moreover, they are the first ones to blame others for whatever. They are OK going to abortion clinics and killing doctors. They are after all above the rest of us, because they have God on their side - at least, they think so.

People need preventive medicine. At this point, people can go to most emergency rooms when they are already sick and they will get some treatment. But that is a backward way to do things. We already pay thousands of $$$ per year to keep insurance for the wealthier. Why not make this a better country spreading medical care to all.

As I said before, everything has been said already. I don't think I need to give millions of arguments in favor of social improvement. The word is already there. Just listen with your heart, not with your doctrine.
